What is a Facial?

A Facial is a beauty treatment which involves a series of skin care treatments for the face. Having a Facial can be a relaxing experience useful for increasing the blood and oxygen flow in the skin.

Facials rejuvenate, hydrate and cleanse the face, and are used for general skin health as well as for specific skin conditions. For general skin health a regular facial helps maintain the healthy skin. Regular facials can help cleanse, improve and pamper your skin but also relax and rejuvenate.

Facials for different skin conditions include facial treatment for rosacea, also facial treatment for blackheads and whiteheads, facial treatment for dry or sensitive skin or acne prone skin.

Facials are performed in the treatment room and usually starts off with face cleansing. It can be with steam or without. It is then followed by a specific facial treatment you opted for and usually contains a mask and a serum. Mask can be for different purposes,  from deep-cleansing which penetrates the pores, masks for healing acne scars or specifically designed for treating hyper-pigmentation; there are also masks that help brightening the skin which works giving the skin a gradual illumination of the skin tone.

The type of products used in your facial will be based on your skin type and concern. For example for aging skin, the products used are often containing anti-aging ingredients such as retinol or hyaluronic acid.

Facial is a very popular treatment to have and the result is usually visible immediately and particularly in the days following the treatment.

Because not all skin types and tones are the same, there is an array of procedures and products used.

Also depending of what result you are looking for will depend on what type of facial you would choose.

The most common types of facials

Cleansing Facial

Perfect for an acne-prone or blocked skin, as it helps to reduce the appearance of acne and blemishes. This facial includes deep cleansing of pores, which helps to get rid of the excess oil and black heads. Cleansing facial not only helps to treat acne and pimples on the skin, but it also helps to lighten the acne scars. Cleansing facials contain mild scrubbing with a steaming technique to ensure that the dirt is pulled out easily.

Anti-Ageing Facial

This facial is ultimately designed to be used on dull and loose skin. Collagen-infused products and collagen boosting techniques are applied in this treatment. Collagen is an important protein that helps to rejuvenate your skin and keep it supple, reducing fine lines and wrinkles. Anti-ageing facial helps to restore the natural suppleness of the skin by a cell renewal process. This facial includes a lot of steaming and massaging, which uplifts your skin naturally.

Hydrating Facial

One of the best relaxing ways to hydrate your skin externally, by using moisture intense skin care products. Hydration facials help promote healthy, glowing and moisturised skin. This type of facial is beneficial for people with extremely dry, parched and dehydrated skin. This facial retains moisture and hydration on the skin, thus keeping your skin soft and supple. It helps to shrink large-sized pores on the skin, sloughs off the dead skin cells and also improves the elasticity of the skin. It involves a process of steaming, exfoliating, skin care products and massaging, which hydrates the your skin.

There are also skincare brand specific facial treatments such as Environ Facial, RegimA Facial, Guinot Facial, Theravine Facial, Matis Facial, Dermalogica and many more, all bearing the name of the manufacturer of the products used in the treatment, and the products you can use at home.
